What to wear in your Engagement Session
A step by step guide to answer all of your style related questions in regard to your upcoming engagement session.
1. Color A few things to consider when you are choose the colors for your outfit(s). You'll have to consider the overall vibe of the images you want. If you want more vibrant and playful images then choose colors that are brighter. If you like more classic and subtle images you'll want to pick more neutral and harmonizing tones. Also consider what season your having your session, fall warm tones, spring pastels tones, winter cooler tones, and summer bright tones. Location can also play into which colors to choose. Think about the color of the buildings, trees, landscape, and other surroundings. |

2. Comfort/Confidence Every couple unless you are both professional models will start off feeling a little awkward in front the camera. Not to worry that I'm here! You will want to pick clothes that both fit you well and you feel good wearing. If you are comfortable and confident in what you are wearing you be able to focus on posing and working that model face. |
3. Avoid Busy Patterns/Stripes

4. Avoid Matching Exactly Avoid picking out exact matching patterns, colors, or items. Instead pick out complimentary colors. If you do want to want exactly try doing something like this: wearing a dress with floral pattern, pick out one of the colors and have your partner wear that color. If you feel strongly about one color then pick them as a running theme thru out the images and not as the main focal point. |
5. Bring Two Outfits In my opinion it's always a good idea to bring two outfits and change half way through your session. I love the idea of starting your session off in a formal outfit then switching to a more casual one. Bonus points for flowy dresses that allow for the wind to catch and add movement to your pictures. Don't be afraid to accessorize with a fun hat, jewelry, a scarf, or even a pair of shoes that Carrie Bradshaw herself would swoon for! |

Lindsay and Richard have a long love story. Mainly because Lindsay's health problems. Lindsay told me that she knew that Richard was the one when she casually mentioned a devotional book she was reading and the next day Richard had picked up the same book so they could read it and discuss it together. The best man said he knew that Lindsay was the one for Richard when he moved to New York to help her thru the many surgeries that she was facing.
Richard and Lindsay picked the absolutely beautiful golf resort Swan Lake in Plymouth, In to hold their ceremony and reception. The ceremony was held outside on the lovely, warm, and slightly humid Sunday afternoon September 12th. Our lovely couple and their wedding party standing under the gazebo after walking down to the aisle to somewhat unconventional songs (which were a big hit with the guests!)
After the ceremony the bridal party, family, and I were able to get our portraits done quickly. Which was a good things because we all needed a air conditioning break! During our break Lindsay and her family was able to meet a special family that had driven from Texas to share in her special day. This was the family of the organ donor for the transplant that Lindsay was the able to receive. It was a really special moment to be able to capture between the two families. I'm not even going to lie, even I shed a few tears.
Dinner was a wonderful Mexican style buffet that was so, so yummy. Followed by various flavored cupcakes. There was dancing, toasts, and and the night ended for me with sunset pictures outside. Here is just a few of my favorites:
It's always an honor to be asked to capture a couple's engagement and wedding. It is a especially big honor to be asked to capture a fellow photographer's engagement and wedding. I am SO excited to welcome Vero to the Barefeet Bride's 2021 group! Vero and I meet thru an online photographer's group for students of Katelyn James. Luckily she lives only about an hour away from me in the Chicago-land area. Vero has been an amazing editor for me when I get behind in editing. (She has gotten me out of the weeds several times!) We also are able to share referrals back and forth. Also I was so lucky to be able to help out last year with her Fall Mini Sessions because her family was sick. But the true love story here is not Audrey and Vero, obviously, it's Vero and Sal!
Sal swept Vero off her feet "forever" ago, and they have been together ever since. Their Windy City session was full of fun surprises like extreme heat, flys that kept landing on our ankles and BITING us, and finally a huge thunderstorm that blew in off of the lake just as we were finishing up. Vero picked the perfect location for their engagement session because the view from the North Shore beach is absolutely breath taking. Between the groups of people playing volleyball, sun bathers, Wizard Unite players, and joggers we were able to capture some truly beautiful images. Here are just a few my favorites, enjoy!
With Love,
Audrey
I was so excited when Rebecca reached out to me to start scheduling her wedding. She had a short few months until the big day, and needed to find someone available on a Friday. In chatting with each out we bonded over both being Harry Potter fans, both being in Hufflepuff house, and surprisingly I was friends with her mother Kathy. I meet Kathy several years ago thru a Facebook Marketplace sale. Kathy owns and runs a wonderful printing business and she had a few prints for sale. One being a huge canvas print of Thomas Kindaid's Sleeping Beauty, my favorite princess! (Also Rebecca and I are BIG Disney fans, more on that in a minute) From that canvas, a friendship grew, and now Kathy's business is my main supplier of canvas prints. September 20, 2019 was a beautiful day to get married! While the trees are just starting to turn to their Fall shades, it was still a beautiful warm 80-ish degrees. We arrived at the beautiful Kate's Garden around 9 am for their 10:30 ceremony. It was the perfect amount of time to be able to capture their sweet first look, and get as many poses of the bride and groom solo.
.
Rebecca's papa was the wedding officiant and he did such a wonderful job with either ephemeral ceremony. Remember I promised more on Disney? Here it is, walking down the isle to the theme song from Up, Cameron and Rebecca met under the weathered gazbo, and shared their emotional vows. I saw several eyes well up, as they exchanged rings, and their first kiss.
Here are just a few of my favorite images from their sweet Fall Garden Wedding:
I was so excited to travel to Chicago's Institute of Art to capture Caylay's senior portraits. The plan to take Cayley's senior pictures in the spring had been in the works for a while, knowing it was still going to be chilly outside and most likely still gray. After my trip to Chicago with my sister i suggested we shoot them at the Institute of Art in Chicago. I'm SO happy they agreed! It was a beautiful spot to capture Cayley. Since she is into preforming and the art's she will seemed to fit into the decor. We were so lucky that the museum wasn't too busy while we were trying to shoot, and were able to work around the crowds fairly easily. The hardest part is picking out just a few of my favorite for the blog. Why does it seem like the Class of 2019 is so much more put together then the kids were when I graduated? (It's not like it was it THAT long ago!) Congrats Cayley! I can't wait to see all the places you'll go!
